Active Isolated Stretching or Assisted Stretching is a special technique used to lengthen muscle and promote fascial release; it helps strengthen the muscle and allows for more movement as well as increased flexibility. When the muscle is slowly stretched, we are increasing the circulation of blood & lymph, thus delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the connective tissues and speeding up detox. Regular sessions will decrease your chances of injury, speed up recovery, and prevent muscle soreness.
The Active Isolated Stretching protocol was created by kinesiologist Aaron Mattes, more than 30 years ago and it has helped thousands of people so far.
If you have problems with stiffness in muscles & joints due to limited mobility we recommend coming to see us for a consultation to assess your conditions and provide a holistic plan to improve your flexibility.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can AIS provide relief for lower back pain?
- Yes. In most cases issues with the lower back take place because of underdeveloped abdominal muscles. Aside from weak abdominal muscles, tight hamstrings can also contribute to the development of lower back pain. For this reason, AIS seeks to strengthen these weak muscles by building them up through targeted stretches with the help of the practitioner.
Can it help those with Scoliosis?
- Yes. The stretching will effectively lengthen and strengthen the neck, trunk, abdominal, hip, and pelvic muscles that are often adversely affected by scoliosis. To promote stability while the stretch is being performed, the practitioner straps the client on a special table.
Does Active Isolated Stretching hurt?
- The general answer is NO. Although we will bring you through stretches that may cause some discomfort, there is a huge difference between experiencing pain and feeling just how tight your muscles and fascia have become.
There are times when your nerves may be so irritated and your tissues so inflamed that you will experience some pain. When we come up against these sort of issues we will work slowly and with precision to be certain what we do frees you up and increases your flexibility.
You will leave lighter on your feet, relaxed and invigorated.
