Did you know that the scent of chocolate triggers the release of chemicals in the brain that produce a similar feeling as when one first falls in love. In addition to being a sensory indulgence, chocolate contains over 300 different compounds some of which can have a significant impact on one’s health and beauty.
FedEx came with a surprise this morning…Keyano Aromatics Chocolate Massage Oil. I couldn’t help myself and had to immediately open the bottle to smell. I’m a big fan of the Keyano Chocolate Butter Cream, and just knew that this little beauty would delight my senses as well. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner this would be the perfect treat for yourself or someone you love.
The only question you would have to ask yourself is what would go better after the massage… a glass of champagne or a cold glass of milk.

Egypt’s Queen Cleopatra must have been on to something, because she was known to use salt therapies to improve her health, and natural beauty. With her radiant, and soft glowing skin she was known to soak in baths made with the salts from The Dead Sea, and was even rumored to have visited the Eastern European salt caves. What Causes Skin to Age?

I remember back in school reading the book “Tuck Everlasting” by Natalie Babbitt. The plot of the story is about a young girl who comes across a well of water; or the “fountain of youth”, and if she drinks the water she will stay young forever.
Since we do not have the special water from the “fountain of youth”, we can still do some daily fixes to help and understand what causes us to age.
There are primary culprits of skin aging, such as sun exposure, smoking, sleep, diet and stress.
Our skin is a living organ, our body’s largest organ and it responds to internal and external factors. Everything we put into and on our bodies, along with our environment, stress levels, and sleeping patterns have an impact on the skin. In fact, all of which are known producers of free radicals.
People can check out this webpage, for the best skin care tips.
Smoking and Toxins One puff of cigarette smoke emits 40,000 free radicals, and these free radicals deplete the body of vitamin C and accelerates the aging process.
Stress and Sleep Constant worry and stress impacts the regulation of hormones and chemicals, and reduces immunity, allowing more viruses into the body. This leads to cell damage, resulting in dull skin, age and stress lines, and other tissue damage. You have to head to the Malie site that suggests you the best preventive measures that makes sure that your skin becomes healthy and normal again.
Diet – A healthful diet rich in Antioxidants will help firm, tone, tighten, refine lines, and give the skin an overall glow. Look for ingredients like these in foods that you eat.
- Vitamin C – broccoli, brussel sprouts, guava and citrus.
- Vitamin E – olive oil, walnut oil, wheat germ oil, oats, tomatoes and carrots.
- Bioflavonoid– citrus, berries, onions, tea, red wine, dark chocolate and sea buckthorn.
- Polyphenol – berries, tea, dark chocolate, walnuts, peanuts and pomegranates.
Sun Exposure
– excess UV exposure is responsible for 90 percent of photo-aging, wrinkles, and brown spots. UVA rays reach deep into the dermis, damaging collagen fibers. Collagen begins to malfunction and decompose; incorrectly rebuilding the skin and forming wrinkles along the way. This process repeats every time the skin is exposed to UVA rays.

Benefit your skin with Vitamin C

Make sure you drink your orange juice!
You probably grew up being told that getting enough vitamin C would ward off colds and other ailments, but now the word is out that vitamin C may not play a big part in keeping those sniffles away.
However, it does play a vital role in maintaining the health of your skin. That’s because vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is very important in the production of collagen, a protein that aids in the growth of cells and blood vessels and gives skin its firmness and strength. Who doesn’t want nice firm and supple skin!! Another great thing about Vitamin C is that it helps your skin repair itself.
Like most people who spend plenty of time in the sun during the summer months; vitamin C may also reduce sunburn caused by exposure to ultraviolet B radiation and prevent the consequences of long-term sun exposure, which can lead to skin cancer. This doesn’t mean you can take vitamins or apply topical vitamin C and then bake safely in the sun, but you can help keep your skin healthy and supple by making sure you get enough of this antioxidant.
For a great Vitamin C serum, try Triple C Serum by societe Clinical Skincare available for purchase at Bluefern Spa.
BENEFITS • Maximum results with a Triple blend of Vitamin C o Increased collagen formation o Pigment regulation o UV protection

I wanted to share some images from the Sun Strength Creation Photography Facebook page. My older brother Chris who lives in Illinois captures these beautiful images of nature, and the outdoors.
For those that are close to me know that I have two things I love; cowboy boots, and Lilacs. So it brings me great joy to share some pictures that he took last week, for me to frame and hang up in my house.
If I’m lucky, I can have him take some pictures of some Ferns that we can hang up in the spa?? (WINK) I am definitely a proud little sister!
I hope you find his photography as beautiful, and intriguing as I do.

These past few weeks at Bluefern have been eye opening. Surrounded by family and friends everyday has brought so much joy to our little spa. With the expansion project almost complete we continuously look forward to new beginning’s and the unknown. When I look around and see all the love that has gone into this place over the last few months, it could make you cry. From Alma’s husband helping with pretty much every big project, and her mother helping with cleaning. We had Deanna our massage therapist spending a whole day sewing curtains; that now hang in our lobby. Last week Alina’s brothers came in to finish building the cabinets and will soon finish our front desk.
I’m proud to say that I work at such an amazing place. We truly have been blessed, and each day we thank the Lord for what he has provided for us with at our little place.
I’m so proud of Alma and Alina and our little family here at Bluefern.

The Party Dress and Spring

With the warmer weather approaching the one thing that comes to my mind are short dresses. I must admit, I have never met a party dress that I haven’t fell in love with. When I was younger, I would totally rock a party dress on the playground without any hesitation. As an adult, I have no hesitation rocking a party dress even in the grocery store. Here are a few cute ways to wear your dresses for early srping. Wear it with cowboy boots, a military/jean jacket and your ready to go.
I took these two looks from my Pinterest account that I love for spring. XOXO, Tara
